“Pieces of Light” and More @ Durham Arts Council
Third Friday schedule: 6-8 p.m.
We are packing the building with art happenings for October Third Friday! On Friday, October 15 at 6pm, join us for the opening of Pieces of Light, a photography exhibition curated from the diverse perspectives of forty-seven regional artists collaborating with the Six Feet Photography Project. Pieces of Light, held in conjunction with Click! Photography Festival, will be on view in the DAC Allenton and Semans Galleries. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Pieces of Light photographers used their cameras as a tool for connecting intimately with their daily lives, the natural world, and their immediate communities. This exhibition runs through November 27, 2021, and can also be viewed by appointment.
In addition to Pieces of Light, a pop-up gallery of photography will be featured in our Pavilion space. Spectrum of Hope: What We See at the End of the Rainbow is a multi-generational visual conversation facilitated by community artist Liz Williams that engaged LGBTQIA+ folks in the Triangle and beyond. Elements of this pop-up will remain on view in the Pavilion space through November. We’ll also feature work from Anna Norton as a Third Friday pop-up: a projection installation will be on view in DAC’s Holmes Conference Room.
While you’re at DAC, don’t miss the Durham Art Guild’s “67th Annual Juried Exhibition”, opening the same evening in the SunTrust Gallery.
And finally, we’re delighted to feature a live performance on the north lawn of the DAC: The Durham Production Company will present Elphie and Daniel, a Thaxave Pop-Up, at 7pm. The performance is seven minutes long, so don’t be late!
Our Third Friday receptions are always free and open to the public. See you at the DAC!
