FreeLaura Wendell has been transforming her drawings into whimsical cutwork lamps, prismatic decals and jewelry since 2020. She recently added a laser cutter to her studio so that she could cut thicker materials and make interactive, 3D designs. She has developed a unique style of decoupage laser art that leverages the interaction between patterned paper and cut-work designs.
Laura’s latest creation is called a “Fridget Spinner” because it is like a fidget spinner for your fridge. Magnets embedded inside the spinner hold it securely to most metal surfaces. Fridgets are reversible with different patterns and colors on each side. As you spin the Fridget’s wheel, the colors and patterns change. Fridgets can also be hung on a wall using the attached loop or displayed on a desk or shelf. Give them a spin whenever you need an artful distraction – like on the way to grab a snack or during a Zoom meeting.
